| St.
John's, located in "The Square" — right in the
centre of Fremantle on the corner of Adelaide
and Queen streets — is a spiritual home to many people and a
sacred site in Anglican terms. An atmosphere of the Divine Presence
is evident as you enter the building and take in the proportional
space of grandeur and beauty.
Interesting stories lie behind the magnificent
stained glass, the triptych behind the altar, the commanding brass
lectern in the shape of an eagle and the plaques set around the
walls. A plaque to the survivors of HMAS Perth lost at sea in 1942
is placed in the sanctuary and a special commemorative service is
held each year in March. |
St. Peter and St.
Mark's is located at 2 Hammad Street, which runs parallel to Canning Highway,
just behind Woolworth's Supermarket.
Built in the 1970s, this church
reflects the architecture of the time - a juxtaposition of styles
designed as a "standalone" architectural structure. The
church has a tiered, clean-lined look. Inside, the church has a high
ceiling and sloping floors.
The congregation at St. Peter and St.
Mark is friendly, and locals and visitors alike share in the
neighborhood feel.
