Taizé or
Meditation
This style of service
has its roots in the most ancient of Christian traditions, and has been
given fresh breath by the Taizé community in France. Founded during WW2
as a place of refuge for people from all countries and faiths, The Church
of Reconciliation in the village of Taizé in
Burgundy is a place of pilgrimage for people of all backgrounds and
languages, and especially for teenagers and young adults.
The Taizé chants used at
St John’s will be in Latin or English. We will also explore other
meditational chants such as those from the Ionian Community which are
grounded in the Celtic tradition. |
Meditation
in The
Church in the
Square, Fremantle
All are welcome to share in
a time of peaceful reflection as the day comes to a close. By candlelight
we will meditate in silence and through simple, beautiful chants. We will
also reflect in silence on readings from sacred and other literature.
Services with themes such
as Light, Water, Earth, Journeying, or Love, will speak to people from all
denominations, as well as to people who don’t belong to any Church but
seek a deep peace.
For those curious but wary,
be assured that you are welcome to come and go throughout the service, and
that you will not be pressured to take part. We do not seek to give
answers, but to wait together, listening to the heart and the spirit. |
In the
silence of the stars,
In the quiet of the hills,
In the heaving of the sea,
Speak Lord. |
In the stillness of this
room,
In the calming of my mind,
In the longing of my heart,
Speak Lord. |
