Wedding FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
How and when do we
contact the Church?
Contact the clergy as soon as you decide that you would like a
Christian wedding service at St John’s. Many weddings are
booked 18 months in advance.
When can we have our
ceremony?
St John’s is
available for weddings on most days throughout the year. St John's
is not available for weddings
during Holy Week or Holy Saturday.
What is required for you to be married in St John’s?
To be married in the
Anglican Church there is an expectation that at least one of you is
baptised.
What if we are not
Anglican?
You do not have to be
Anglicans to be married in St John’s. However, the priest who
conducts your service must be an Anglican and you will be married
according to the rites of the Anglican Church.
What if one or both
of us have been married before?
If a previous
marriage ended in divorce, you can be re-married in the Anglican
Church. Preparation needs to be undertaken and approval received
from the Bishop before the ceremony. This is aimed at ensuring your new
marriage will be lasting by dealing with any issues from
the past.
How do we plan for
our wedding service?
There are many details that need to
be considered. You will need to discuss the
‘Notice of Intention’, order of service, readings, music, etc.
